All programs focus equally on the health and wellness of humans and of companion animals.
It is well known that dogs have a natural affinity to work with humans
when faced with a shared goal, helping to heal humans physiologically (presenting as symptoms of disease, trauma)
by supporting the body to reach a balanced state (homeostasis).
This practice is known as Animal-Assisted Therapy, a holistic approach that invites companion animals to support humans
in the prevention, maintenance, and/or recovery from various health conditions that can affect the body, mind, and spirit.
"Over time, continued strain on your body from stress may contribute to serious health problems,
such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and other illnesses, including mental health disorders such as depression or anxiety."
--National Institute of Mental Health, 2020
Additionally, recent research in the study of the Human-Animal Bond tells us that
a dog's learned behavior improves when the human guardian's health and well-being improves, too.
This is accomplished by working (and playing!) in the natural environment, on and off of the leash.
Stress (for all beings) is often the root cause of dis-ease. Changing how a body reacts to stressors (through behaviors)
will ultimately provide the greatest protection against, and long term management of, challenging health conditions.
